How to create custom headers for Documents

Customised headers can only be used in Documents. We encourage users to use headers that have been set up and made available in the chosen business template when signing up for Bookem. Alternatively, you can also create your own customised headers in Document Templates.

Note: You can create and use a document template as a custom header, and insert it into documents, or create custom headers for each type of document template individually.

How to create a custom header

Follow these steps:

1. Go to Documents > Templates

2. Click '+ New Template', and select 'Blank template' to create a new document template

3. Now, you can use features like columns, horizontal rules, images (for business logo), and variables to create a customised document header for a single document template, or as a re-usable one

Here's a step-by-step demo to create a custom header for a Registered Dietitian, as an example:

  • On a blank document template and give it a name

  • Now, click '+ Insert' and select 'Columns layout'

  • Choose the equal width, which will divide the page equally

  • Now, add a 'Horizontal rule' to separate the header from the rest of the document

  • In the left column, you can insert the client details, using text and variables

  • In the right column, insert the business information, using text variables

  • Add your logo, as an image, by clicking 'Insert' and 'Image'

  • Click 'Save and close'

  • You can now insert this header into other document templates, or use it for specific documents

How to insert a custom header, saved as a document template, into another document template

Follow these steps:

1. Go to Documents > Templates

2. Click '+ New Template', and select 'Blank template' to create a new document template

3. Select '+ Insert' and select 'Template'

4. From the list of document templates, select the one with your custom header

That's it!

Note: Default PDF headers can't be toggled on or off in document templates, only in documents. Follow the link to learn more.
