Bookem AI document templates: How they work and when to use them

Bookem’s AI document templates help you generate consistent, accurate clinical notes and letters. Each template can include:

  • One or more AI blocks

  • A prompt that guides what the AI generates

  • Optional full-page layout elements for letters or formal reports

Templates can be simple or fully formatted, depending on your needs.

Types of AI document templates

You can create or use any number of templates, in any structure that suits your workflow.

1. Simple templates (AI block only)

A clean, minimalist template containing:

  • One or more AI blocks

  • A saved prompt

  • No predefined layout

The structure comes entirely from the prompt and the generated output.

Ideal for:

  • Progress notes

  • Quick SOAP notes

  • Parent or client summaries

  • Any note where AI provides structure via the prompt

Use simple templates when you want speed, flexibility, and minimal formatting

2. Full layout + AI block(s) (letters & reports)

These templates include:

  • A header or logo

  • Letter or report formatting

  • A signature block

  • Team member details

  • One or more AI blocks

  • An embedded prompt

The page structure is built into the template, while the AI generates the content.

Ideal for:

  • GP letters

  • Referral letters

  • Multi-disciplinary reports

  • Any professional communication needing a polished format

Use this when you want a formal, client-ready or clinician-ready document

Identifying AI document templates

AI-enabled templates in Bookem are marked with a purple sparkle icon in the Document template library.

The icon indicates that:

✔ The template contains at least one AI block

✔ It can generate content using your saved prompt(s)

✔ It may be simple or fully formatted

✔ It may contain one or many AI blocks

How AI document templates generate content

When you use an AI document template, Bookem combines:

  • Your transcript (if attached)

  • The client profile

  • Any supporting documentation you include

  • Template layout (if applicable)

  • The prompt(s) inside the AI block(s)

These elements work together to generate a personalised, structured clinical document.

Templates with multiple AI blocks allow different sections of the document to be generated independently, each using its own prompt.
