If the other person can't hear you during a Bookem video call, likely causes include browser permissions, operating system settings, the wrong microphone selected, or another app using the microphone. Follow these steps to identify the issue.
Your browser needs explicit permission to use your microphone.
Note: if you've never been asked for microphone access, your browser may show a permission prompt automatically when you join a call. Choose Allow when this appears.
Your browser can have permission to use your microphone while macOS still blocks it at the system level.
Note: if your browser doesn't appear in the list at all, it usually means macOS hasn't yet prompted for microphone access. Rejoin the Bookem call, and when the permission prompt appears, choose Allow.
Your browser can have permission to use your microphone while Windows still blocks it at the system level.
Your operating system may show a different default microphone than the one selected inside your Bookem call. This matters if you're using a headset or external microphone rather than your device's built-in one.
Note: your device list may show a built-in option such as "Microphone Array" as the default. If you have an external mic connected, check this dropdown even if your browser and system settings look correct.
Some operating systems won't release the microphone to a new app if another program is holding on to it.
Some laptops have a physical mute key or switch separate from any software setting. Check for this if the steps above haven't resolved the issue.
If your microphone still isn't working after trying the above, test it independently to confirm whether the issue is with Bookem or with your device and drivers.
If the test fails here too, the issue is outside of Bookem and points to a system or driver problem rather than a Bookem setting.
